Immersive Learning

With today's digital age, immersive technology has become a major part of children's lives. Immersive technology "Create distinct artificial experiences by blurring the line between the real and virtual worlds" (Kuhail et. al, 2021 p. 1). There are many benefits of utilizing this technology in the classroom. One benefit is that it increases students' motivation to learn and their engagement in the content (Mulders et. al, 2020). The students are more interested in the content they are exploring, so they are more engaged. Due to this, they are getting more out of the learning experience. Another benefit is that it helps learners transfer that knowledge into the real world (Mulders et. al, 2020).

When it comes to designing immersive learning experiences, there are steps to be taken and things to be considered. Through my research on this topic, I found some best practices that should be taken into consideration when designing and implementing immersive learning experiences. I took that research and created a best practice checklist for creating these experiences. When I created the checklist, I broke it down into four major components: preparation, design, implementation, and evaluation. You can reference the checklist below.

After designing my checklist, I then took that knowledge and considered how I could utilize this learning style in my own classroom. I created a presentation highlighting three ways to utilize immersive learning in the classroom. I discussed virtual field trips, engaging reading experiences, and STEM challenges. After that, I considered a specific plan I could create to design an immersive learning lesson for my students. I designed a lesson using the Animal Safari app on animal habitats. The students are going to create a habitat, utilize the Animal Safari app to use AR to put their animal in the habitat, and then create a video presentation. The design plan for this lesson can be found below.

I hope you enjoy the video I created, please let me know your thoughts below! Good luck with your immersive learning design.
