Hello Everyone! I am so glad you are here as I journey through my life as an instructional designer and elementary school teacher. I have learned so much through this process and am really excited to see what the future has in store for me.
I wanted to start off this blog by introducing myself to you all. My name is Erin Hovious, I am 27 years old and have been teaching for 6 years. I live in a small rural town with my dog Luna and cat Bellatrix (big Harry Potter fan here). I am lucky enough to be one of those people who always knew they wanted to be a teacher. I remember playing school in my grandma's basement as a child. When I was in high school I actually got the opportunity to help teach a preschool class and that is what solidified the idea that I wanted to be a teacher. I got my undergraduate degree from St. Ambrose University in 2017 in elementary education.
I was lucky enough to get a teaching job right out of college. My first job was a K-4 elementary school teacher in a town near where I grew up. I absolutely love reading, so that was a great starting job for me. My second year of teaching, I had to opportunity to switch to a classroom position at my school. I taught first-grade for four years and loved it! Before COVID hit, I got a job as a technology coach at my school as well. I was able to help a lot during COVID with remote learning. It is through that experience that I decided I wanted to pursue a masters degree in technology.
In 2021 I started my M.Ed in Instructional Design and Technology from the American College of Education and am expected to graduate in Dec. 2022. Throughout my masters program, I have learned a lot about the instructional design process. I have been able to transfer that knowledge into my own classroom. I recently started working at a new school teaching second grade. At my new school I am on the technology committee and have been able to bring my instructional design knowledge to our meetings.
That's really all the basic information about me. I am excited to have you here and hope to connect with you all. Please feel free to introduce yourself or leave a comment to connect.
With Love,
Erin
